Funerals : A Cameroonian touristic product of the future

The year 2010 has been for tourism stakeholders a year of mark. This because it has allowed us to integrate the large group of countries described as a tourist destination according to the WTO. Why do we say that we do not have oil like Equatorial Guinea to succeed while Cameroon is considered as Africa in miniature? Tourism is the first industry in the world in terms of profitability. Among the branches of tourism, cultural tourism is booming in the world.

Let’s take into account the fact that each civilization wants to impose its culture on the planet. Asia has established itself by keeping its traditional values that have remained the hallmark of its identity against the Western invasion. Africa in general and Cameroon in particular would benefit from organizing and export what they hold most dear and most authentic.

The region of Western Cameroon receives each year thousands of people attending funerals. These symbolic ceremonies rich in sound and colour measure the power of a man when they are crowded and full of guests. The richness of the funeral takes its noble meaning in coronations and folklores surrounding the ceremony. Among the Bamileke tribe, death is a way to get in touch with God. This explains the cult of the skulls in the here. Thus cultural tourism gradually takes on an important place in our region and our families. In the coming years, the funeral in the West will be a treasure in the tourist circuit, and their offices will take the components “cost of folklore” to meet tourists demand.

We are actually working so that it becomes true but it will be necessary to think of bringing in a study to tourist impact because among the Bamilékés we do not begin dancing because someone saw a tourist. However it will be necessary to well and truly educate the population about the dangers of the mass tourism. The West Cameroon will become the tourist premiere destination with the assistance of the tourist office of Dschang.
